How can I get the laptop curser unstuck from the middle of the screen?

I turned on my lap top and while it was booting up I decided to dust the keyboard and then I could not move the curser at all. I tried to re boot but the same problem is there, so borrowing my boyfriend's laptop to try to find the answer.
