Musical assistance, what kind of rosin do I need on a stand up bass?

I'm pretty new to playing the stand up bass and I needed rosin for it. So I went over to the music store and asked the guy for some stand up bass rosin. He didn't have any so he gave me some dark violin rosin and said that would work. Bought it. Then found out that they make rosin just for the bass. But the rosin I bought is dark, so will it still work? Or do I need to use bass rosin that's made only for the bass?
